National Code of Practice for visitor attractions
VisitBritain's National Code of Practice has been developed through extensive discussion with representatives of leading attractions with the aim to improve the quality of visitor attractions and to provide visitors with the reassurance that attractions adhering to the code will provide a high-quality experience.
The quality of visitor experience is fundamental to the success of any tourism business. The new Code provides an opportunity for all attractions to demonstrate their commitment to quality. The Code also brings more immediate benefits to the business itself as it is a seal of approval, representing an agreed industry-wide standard, which the vast majority of attractions should have no difficulty in attaining. The most important point to be recognised for visitor attractions is that from April 1st 2009, VisitBritain intends to restrict marketing of attractions including website listings and promotion to those who have registered their commitment to the code.
The Code covers operating hours, amenities, facilities and services, entry prices and charges, pre-booking requirements, accessibility, maintenance, customer care and courtesy, sustainability and visitor comments/complaints. Registration costs £25 and lasts for three years. Participants will receive a copy of the Code which they can display at point of entry, access to a benchmarking and best practice guide, as well as regular newsletter.
