Braintree is an historic market town, situated in one of the largest districts of north Essex, and surrounded by picturesque villages and countryside, with many tourist attractions.
Overview of trail: The annual Braintree District Open Exhibition showcases work by local artists, chosen by a panel of selectors, who also award a number of prizes sponsored by local businesses and organisations. Most works exhibited are for sale. All artists, whether amateur or professional, are welcome to submit work. (see Braintree District Arts website for details & entry form) Usual museum entry charges apply during the exhibition, but look out for special free entry offers on the Museum’s website: www.braintreemuseum.co.uk
The exhibition is organised by Braintree District Arts Voluntary Association in collaboration with Braintree District Museum, and sponsored by George Yard Shopping Centre.
The Yard Art Sale, held under the ‘bandstand’ in George Yard Shopping Centre, features inexpensive works by local artists, second hand art books and materials. Artists wishing to rent a pitch can find full details & entry form on the Braintree District Arts website
Make a day of it: Enjoy the permanent Museum displays, plus the fascinating Warner Textile Archive.
