Halstead

Attractive and traditional market town, with a wealth of shops, restaurants and interesting walks. Wool and weaving provided the mainstay of business over the centuries. Built in 1788, the surviving Townsford Mill (once noted for its
silk-weaving) straddles the River Colne. It houses a large antiques centre.
