Visit Essex for a great short break and MORE

Thinking about visiting Essex? The county offers a rich tapestry of everything that makes Britain great. The county’s gently rolling landscapes speckled with picturesque towns and villages have inspired a range of well-known artists and gardeners to work their magic. Scattered throughout the county are many spectacular gardens, country parks and nature reserves that are all well worth a visit.  The green countryside contrasts sharply with the vast coastline - 350 miles long. Vibrant seaside towns merge with quiet, isolated beaches that in turn become networks of tidal inlets and estuaries, rich in wildlife and perfect for a relaxing day out or a short break away.

So, if you are looking for somewhere new to discover, come and visit Essex!

Simon Calder visits Essex

So close to London…so much to discover. Simon Calder hops on the train from London Liverpool Street to Manningtree to explore rural Essex. On his tour Simon stops off at the magnificent Audley End House & Gardens in Saffron Walden, then cycles through Constable Country stopping off at Dedham Vale where John Constable painted some of his most famous works of art. Simon and the Essex Wildlife Trust then take a boat from Burnham-on-Crouch to Wallasea Island where the spoil from the Crossrail project is helping to build one of the largest wetland reserves in Europe. The River Crouch is close enough to the North Sea to be tidal which means there's a rich diversity of wildlife. Escape the hustle and bustle, download the Wild Days Out booklet and explore rural Essex.
