One of the oldest museums in the country, opened in 1835, with fine and varied collections. Something for everyone from moccasins and mummy cases to woolly mammoths and Wallace the lion. Displays of local history, archaeology, natural history and geology, ceramics, furniture, textiles, ancient Egypt and ethnography from the 'Worlds of Man'. Plus special exhibitions, events and holiday activities. Twelfth Century Norman castle ruins in grassy grounds. Good disabled access.
