Ongar Millennium History Society present The Marian Slade Lecture 2019. London's First Olympics 1908: English Gentlemen and the World of Sport by Professor Dilwyn Porter.
Professor Porter from De Montford University, Leicester has written widely on sport in twentieth century Britain with an emphasis on amateurism and national identity. He is a former editor of the journal Sport in History and helped BBC Radio 4 create its landmark series Sport and the British.
