Tiptree Jam Factory

About

Best known for its production of jam, Tiptree is among the contenders as 'the largest village in England' due to the development within the area. Fruit farming began in the village in 1864, and the family firm of Wilkin and Sons has become world-famous for its jams and preserves. The Tiptree Tea Rooms are a popular destination with the tearooms also being available in Cressing Temple Barns, Heybridge and Writtle

South of the village is Tiptree Heath, a popular area of common land for walks and dog walking. Tiptree Heath is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest SSSI and if you are lucky you can see the Exmoor ponies which roam the heathland. The village also has the grade two listed Messing Maypole Mill.

Within the vilage, which is in the borough of Colchester, is a library, two supermarkets, St. Luke's Church, a skatepark and a number of local independent shops and facilities. The closest towns to Tiptree are Maldon, which is approximatley nine miles away, and Colchester which is 11 miles.
