The National Jazz Archive starts its anniversary year with its first big band jazz fundraising concert.
The concert is the first of a series of events throughout 2018 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Archive.
The 17-piece John Ongom Big Band, with vocalists Mark Jennett and Cynthia Simmonds, under musical director Angus Moncrieff, will play a great selection of music made famous by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and others.
Angus said: “We’re delighted to kick off the Archive’s anniversary year with this concert, and we’re looking forward to presenting an evening of great music to help raise funds to support the fantastic work of the Archive.”
The venue is Loughton Methodist Church, close to the Archive’s home in Loughton Library, where extensive parking is available. The church and the archive are a kilometre away from Loughton Station on the Central Line, and they are also served by numerous bus routes.
