Details

By 1917, after three long years of war and no victory in sight, Britain faced starvation. It was time to create a New Army, one that would fight not in Flanders Fields but the home ones. Although women had worked on the land since 1914, a Women’s Land Army was created. Using workers’ own words and contemporary images, this talk explores the lives and endeavors of these largely forgotten women who, by keeping starvation at bay, won the food war. The talk will take 1 hour and there will be time for questions afterwards.
