Essex Threads is a one day event looking at the history of the textile industry in Essex and what sustainable methods can be used in the future.

Here are some of the topics that will covered throughout the day:

• Edwina Ehrman, Curator of Fashioned from Nature at the V&A
• The Pre-industrial textile industry - Valina Bowman-Burns
How do you make cloth into clothing without machines? The labour intensive process involved men, women and children.
• Textiles in Essex: From Says to Silk - John Miners – Textile Consultant - An exploration of the history of factory made textiles in the county.
• Talk looking at the problems with how we produce and buy clothes.
• Talk from a sustainable Fashion designer who uses Sustainable methods.

Event starts at 10am and will finish at 3pm.

Turn from Springfield Road into Navigation Road then right into Wharf Road. Essex Record Office is at the end of Wharf Road. Public car parking is available in the Chelmsford City Council car park beyond ERO. Three disabled spaces are available at the end of the access road on the left side of the ERO building.

½ mile from Chelmsford Railway and Bus/coach stations and 100 yards from Parkway Park and Ride bus stops.
