Ingrebourne Valley Visitor Centre is perfect for a day out whether you are walking, cycling, having a picnic, playing football or just enjoying the wildlife. Hornchurch Country Park has open areas of grassland perfect for a kickabout or a picnic and tarmacked paths to explore. Want to get fit? There is an outdoor gym and ‘trim-trail’ throughout the park as well as a children’s play area.
The visitor centre has a café serving barista coffee, teas, cakes, sandwiches and hot food snacks where you can enjoy fantastic views over the Valley. There is a gift shop selling gifts, wild bird care products, books, food gifts and a wide selection of toys and games to take home or use in the park including everything you need to discover the local wildlife.
The centre has an education space offering regular events and walks for adults and children, including weekly sessions for toddlers and children’s birthday parties. The room is available for hire for parties, meetings etc.
Hornchurch Country Park was awarded gold in the Best Country Park for London in Bloom 2015 and is a designated Local Nature Reserve. The park is part of the Ingrebourne Valley which is rich in wildlife and has great opportunities for bird watching.
The marshes (containing the largest freshwater reed bed in London) is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Often nesting Barn owls can be seen hunting from the centre.
The park is a former RAF base and was used during both World Wars. Squadrons of Spitfires based here played an important role protecting London during the Battle of Britain. Various artefacts and relics of the site’s RAF history are still visible in the park including an aircraft dispersal bay, pillboxes and Tett turrets and there are several artefacts in the visitor centre.

Public transport – Underground - From Hornchurch district line station, turn right and follow Sutton’s lane until you get to Hornchurch Country Park where you will see the centre beyond the car park. Bus – the 252 bus stops just by Squadrons’ Approach. The 252 bus leaves from either Hornchurch Town centre or Colliers Row
By car - *Please note that our postcode may not work with sat nav* Turn into Squadron’s Approach from Airfield Way/ Suttons Lane, turn right at the end of the street and follow the road into the carpark. The centre is a very short walk from the car park.
Disabled parking – the centre is approximately 2 minute walk on level tarmac from the car park. For visitors who cannot walk this distance, please call the centre prior to your visit to arrange access to the drop off point outside the centre
