14th April: Cadillac Kings: http://www.cadillackings.co.uk/
The Cadillac Kings are a firm favourites on the blues & jump-jive scenes. With stunning musicianship & an exciting stage act, this band knows how to entertain audiences across the board, the length & breadth of the UK, Europe & Scandinavia.
It's extremely difficult to classify them, they play r 'n' b, they swing, and they rock 'n' roll, while staying true to a very bluesy sound. One thing's for sure it's always fun to see and hear these guys play live.
Darrell Parsons, Blues in Britain says of the band, ‘They are entertaining, authentic & infectious - The Cadillac Kings’ high energy swinging R&B is enough to put a foaming head on a pint of real ale! This is pure good time music that left The Darlington Arts Centre audience dizzy, long after they’d left the building.” In other words they rate as one of the most swinging acts around.
28th April: Que Pasa:
Adam Amor on sax, Peter Lemer on piano, Paul Higgs on trumpet, Steve Cook on double bass, and Paul Robinson on drums make up this All-Star band playing Latin, standards, originals and contemporary jazz.
Adam Amor is the founder, composer and arranger for the Spanish Harlow Orchestra and Back 2 Funk.
Adam was active on the jazz scene in New York for a number of years before returning to the UK. He now balances lecturing in music and performing arts and composing with playing the sax.
Internationally known Peter Lemer (ex Barbara Thompson, Ginger Baker, Jon Hiseman to name just a few in a very long list of renowned jazz artists) has also played in New York but has been an integral part of the extremely tangled British jazz scene since the early 1960’s both as a performer and a composer.
Paul Higgs is one of the UK’s leading trumpet players and has had an extensive musical career in many fields including performing, composing and arranging music for film, TV and theatre. He was a Musical Director for many years for the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company and has performed in major concert venues around the world, such as the Royal Festival Hall, the Schubert Theatre (USA), Berlin Concert Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Ronnie Scott’s. Latterly, Paul is a mainstay of the jazz group Rebop.
Steve Cook on double bass has a wonderful rounded tone with great clarity. He also has had an extensive and varied jazz career touring and recording with numerous bands. He is also a professional software engineer.
Paul Robinson has worked at the top of his profession for over 40 years. He is the drummer of choice for many of London’s premier West End shows and is constantly in demand for touring and studio sessions. Again he has played with far too many renowned jazz artists to list here and has an extensive list of credits covering albums, film scores, TV shows, chart hits, West End shows.
