The Cedars, Oaker Hill,
Great Yeldham,

A private collection of wartime memorabilia from Essex's only long-term heavy bomber base.
Built during 1942 and opened in January 1943, RAF Ridgewell was home to RAF No. 90 Squadron (Short Stirlings) and the American 8th Air Force's 381st Bombardment Group (B-17s).
Sample the atmosphere in one of RAF Ridgewell's only-remaining Nissen huts. Learn the remarkable story of a heavy bomber airfield, which launched 348 bombing missions for the loss of 187 Allied aircraft.
Follow in the footsteps of Bing Crosby, Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh, who all visited the airfield in 1944.
Above all, come and remember those who served in the cause of freedom.
