Details

Clacton Pier is an iconic part of Essex’s tourism heritage and steeped with history since it first opened to the public on 18th July 1871. The 6.5 acre site was bought by The Ball Family in March 2009 and has undergone a significant recent transformation, boasting a variety of indoor and outdoor entertainment for all the family.
The landmark – with the amazing address of No1 North Sea - provides the perfect recipe for a great day out for all ages. The aim of the owners is to create a 52-week a year attraction to rival any of its kind along the East Coast.
The greatest change so far came in July 2018 when a new £4 million development was opened. It was years in the planning and took nine months to complete. Thousands turned out to the opening on July 21, the Pier’s 147th birthday.
The new development includes Skull Point, an American-style 18 hole adventure golf course which is set over two levels with 12 holes indoors and a further six outside. Discovery Bay is home to a fantastic new soft play area and also includes the Galley Restaurant, Captain’s Table Coffee Shop and the first floor level Dockside Dodgems.
The whole 30,000 square foot area is themed, landscaped and heated to create a cosy, relaxing facility all the year round with views out onto the beach and North Sea via a glassed wall running along the eastern side.
Further indoor facilities are the Lanes Bowling Centre, the Prize Factory Amusement Arcade and a Seaquarium where you can experience aquatic life and have fun learning more about the environment surrounding the Pier. Staff are on hand to help answer any questions and special group tours are bookable in advance.
The Pier also boasts 16 kiddies, family and thrill rides giving plenty of choice for all – including petrol Go Karts, Bumper Boats, a Rollercoaster, Twister, Waltzers, Helter Skelter and much more.
Packages for birthdays and other events or parties can be arranged for most of these attractions to make it a really special day at an affordable price.
The Jolly Roger, the first proper building to be put up on the Pier in 1893, is home to the end of the pier circus which is produced by Circus Fantasia and has operated at Whitsun and during the school summer holidays since 2017. It seats 300 people in a big top atmosphere with top performers from around the globe.
The Boardwalk Bar has a comfortable atmosphere set in a contemporary interior. It has a varied menu and is licensed. Soak up the golden rays of sun and savour the best sea view in Clacton, while you enjoy a cold crisp lager or your favourite refreshment. Situated by the shoreline at the front of the Pier, the Sunshine Terrace has been recently developed expanding the area and improving the facilities, making it a location of choice to enjoy a sunny day with family and friends.
The ever popular Prize Factory has ticket exchange amusements, video games and American pool. You can also grab a bite to eat at the American Diner.
Clacton Pier is widely seen as one of the prime sea fishing spots along the Tendring coastline. Fishermen can enjoy fishing all year round as a member of the 24/7 Fishing Club for £75 or purchase a day ticket for £6. The most common fish to catch are whiting, codling, pouting, rockling and bass.
And for those less active or thrill-seeking, the length of the Pier provides the perfect walk to look out to sea, across the miles of beach or back to the Clacton coastline.
