Parndon Mill Open Studios at The Gallery at Parndon Mill
Exhibition, Sat 15 - Sun 16 Jul 2017
Harlow is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year with numerous exhibitions and events. See www.visitharlow.com
More than 40 years ago artists took over Parndon Mill, sadly neglected and nearly derelict, but a beautiful historic building in a delightful riverside setting. Gradually they restored it to become a thriving hub of creativity, nurturing a wide diversity of talent and skills in over 30 studios.
Magnificent glass, weaving, calligraphy, guitar making, ceramics, jewellery and metalwork along with fine arts will be on view here during the Open Studios event. There will also be an insight into architectural skills and the work of graphic and product designers. Parndon Mill's artists, craftspeople, designers and architects will talk about their work and demonstrate their techniques. Glass blowing is particularly dramatic and visitors are invited to "have a go". One hour taster workshops in fused glass, ceramics and print making will also be offered.
There will be a special workshop for children to work with a tutor and parent in various media. It will be a privilege to listen to Richard Ove Stokkereit playing one of David Rouse's classical guitars in his studio from time to time during the weekend.
