Celebrating Harlow being 70 years old this year, the exhibition PICTURE HARLOW shows paintings, drawings, sculpture and prints of various aspects of the town.

Prints of sculptures in Harlow, made by students at Harlow College, will be featured along with sculptures by Andy Thompson also inspired by the collection. Contributions by artists who have studios at Gatehouse Arts include concrete sculptures by Jim Brown based on Harlow architecture, and paintings by Jim Montgomery, Hung Voong, Robert Davies, Leon Webb, Averil Sinnott and Charlie Browne depicting features of the town, some in a fairly abstract way others
presenting carefully selected subjects more directly. Richard Sobey presents a mixed media piece with digital content inviting the viewer to explore Harlow and its community in new ways. Drawings and paintings by Alan Burgess and Jane Horton will concentrate on natural subjects in and around Harlow and large colourful, collage style impressions of the town by Bob Boast will contrast with
small delicate paintings by Joan Joseph. Woodcut prints by Jane Stobart and subtle paintings by Jackie Chakravarty are by artists who both live in Harlow, familiar with the attractions of the town. Representatives from studios at Parndon Mill include John Sellings who painted here for many years, often choosing scenes from his studio window, and Corrina Dunlea who specialises in drawing and illustration.

The subjects selected by the exhibiting artists range from new town architecture to some of the original older buildings well as trees and green spaces. Highlights of Harlow, the Sculpture Collection and the Gibberd Garden are also featured.

This exhibition will be rich and varied and it is hoped that it will encourage its visitors to look at our town in a different light and appreciate some of the diversity it has to offer.
