Details

Epping Forest is of national and international conservation importance with two thirds of it being designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. Epping Forest is also a wonderful recreational resource for many different activities including walking, dog walking, cycling, horse riding, football, golf, cricket and boating.

There are three visitor centres in Epping Forest.

Epping Forest Gateway incorporating The View, Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge and Butler's Retreat Café is at Rangers Road, Chingford.

The View is open seven days a week and has an extensive stock of maps and guide books to the Forest, wildlife guides, attractive gifts and children's pocket money toys. There is also a changing selection of craft and artists' works created by local artists, including bowls turned from wood from the Forest. Staff are on hand to answer your every query about the Forest.
The visitor centres should be your first port of call to find out about the facilities the Forest has to offer. You can apply for a riding licence at The View or pick up information from our selection of leaflets and guides. The View is our booking office for a variety of events including guided walks, children's activities and open-air theatre. Don't miss the balcony! It is crafted from solid oak and gives views over Chingford Plain which are enjoyed by all our visitors.
The other Forest centres are located at The Temple, in Wanstead Park and The Visitor Centre at High Beach. Visit www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/eppingforest for more information.
