About

Danbury is a large village built on the site of an Iron Age fort. Situated close to the Chelmsford and, as it is one of the highest points in Essex, there are views of the Blackwater estuary. The Church of St. John the Baptist contains notable wooden effigies of knights. Set within a country park is the 19th C. Danbury Palace, a former bishop's residence. Danbury Country Park is a popular desitnation for cyclists, walkers, dog walking and for fishing.

The village is at the centre of extensive areas of woodland and heath owned by the National Trust and other preservation organisations. However. the quietude of the surrounding countryside contrasts with the A414, which is the major road which runs through the centre of the village and links it with Maldon to the east and Chelmsford to the west.
