About

Felsted is a picturesque village in the Uttlesford district and is located near to Braintree and Great Dunmow. The village was first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086.  It retains all the charm of a rural village within the beautiful north-west Essex countryside.

Felsted has two pubs, The Chequers and The Swan, a village store, antiques shop, two restaurants and a bed and breakfast guest house.

The village has links to Lord Riche who founded The Felsted School in 1564 - and who is buried in the Holy Cross Church - due to him being an important benefactor of the Felsted church.

The school also has links to Oliver Cromwell, who sent his sons there. The valley between Little Dunmow and Felsted was the location for the only sugar beet factory in Essex, which has now been redeveloped for housing. Felsted is linked to Little Dunmow by the Flitch Way - a former railway line which ran from Braintree to Bishops Stortford.

The village has a number of hamlets within its parish such as Bannister Green, Bartholomew Green, Willows Green, Cobblers Green, Cock Green, Molehill Green, Warchhouse Green and Casueway End. Felsted was also one of the villages which the Tour de France passed through in 2014.
