Music, Fri 29 Sep 2017

Roman River Music Festival

Mahler poured his rich life experience and passion into his symphonies; this one has particular emotional depth, written in the knowledge that his life would soon be cut short by a recently-diagnosed illness; he died before its premiere in 1910.

Orlando Jopling’s lifelong affinity with Mahler brings him back to this, the deepest and most personal of all of the symphonies, after having conducted the work for the first time almost twenty years ago.

Orlando Jopling does powerful, extraordinary things with the music, generating structural momentum, emotional charge and climax. A revelation.”
Ates Orga on Orlando Jopling’s debut CD recording with the English Chamber Orchestra

A stunning group of world-class musicians will perform in the perfect acoustics of Stoke by Nayland Church.

Iain Farrington’s brilliant re-orchestrations were a joy to perform last year, and we straightaway asked him to make a new arrangement of Mahler’s final symphony.
