Details
It’s all about DAD at the railway museum today so bring him along to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of this special steam day.
There’ll be steam train rides all day long and the kids will love the new train-themed play area. There’s plenty of room to run around and you can explore the vintage carriages and have a go at operating the Signal Box.
The Restoration Shed will be open for a fascinating peek ‘behind the scenes’ at our locomotives under restoration. You can ride on our famous Pump Trolley, used in the record breaking attempt for BBC Children in Need last year AND we’ll be running our ‘Taster for a Tenner’ so Dad (and possibly Grandad) can have a go at driving a diesel loco for just £10!
Our miniature pub, The Viaduct Tavern (probably the smallest pub in Essex!) will be open for business serving real ale from the Colchester Brewery, wine, cider and soft drinks. We’ll fire up the BBQ and the Chappel Station Café will be serving light lunches, delicious home-made cakes and cream teas.
Although the museum is virtually fully accessible, due to us being at a functioning railway station, visitors using wheel chairs will need the assistance of a carer to navigate the separate accessible entrance and security gate on the opposite side of the rail track.
