Since the success of Channel 5’s Great Model Railway Challenge, we’ve seen lots more visitors here at the museum checking out our model railway layouts and we’re delighted to now have the Braintree & Halstead Model Railway Club and their layouts become an integral part of the museum.

This year they are hosting our Model Railway Show with numerous layouts set up all around the museum. A real treat!

We’ll be running steam trains throughout the day and you can even have a go at driving one of our diesel locomotives for just £10! Ask for the ‘Taster for a Tenner’ deal on arrival. These driving experiences are sold at reception on a first-come-first-served basis so arrive early to secure your slot.

The Viaduct Tavern, our very own miniature pub, will be open serving bottled beers, wine and soft drinks and the vintage railway carriage cafe, amongst other things, serves great cake!

Although the museum is virtually fully accessible, due to us being at a functioning railway station, visitors using wheel chairs will need the assistance of a carer to navigate the separate accessible entrance and security gate on the opposite side of the rail track.
