The Temple of Claudius at Colchester Castle Museum
Dating from 55-60AD this was the grandest of all Roman buildings built in Colonia Claudia (Colchester), the first capital of Roman Britain. It now forms the foundations of Colchester Castle Museum. Boudica burnt the Temple to the ground in 60AD leaving a basic platform which the Normans then used to construct their Castle some 1000 years later.
The foundations of the Temple can be visited on a Guided tour of the Castle.
