Details
Belfairs Woodland Centre is the gateway to the beautiful and ancient Belfairs and Daws Heath Living Landscape. This is an area of around 1160 acres which is vital for nature conservation. Essex Wildlife and their partners use traditional woodland management techniques to maintain the area and this has improved the variety of wildlife in the reserve.
We have a sculpture trail and the famous “Seven Woods Walk”, which is a 51/2 mile trail around the whole Living Landscape. Whilst you are out you may be lucky enough to see one of our important resident population of Dormice or a Heath Fritillary butterfly, also nationally rare. A large amount of our woodland work is done to promote these key species.
We have a welcoming shop and café on site serving teas, coffees, pastries and light lunches. This is staffed by our friendly volunteers. We also act as an Education Centre for a number of local schools. If you wish to arrange a school visit please contact the Centre directly.
During the school holidays we offer a variety of wildlife themed events for children of a range of ages. Simply go to our website www.essexwt.org.uk or our Facebook page www.facebook.com/EWTBelfairs for all the details.
