Set in a charming 18th century building in the picturesque riverside town of Burnham-on-Crouch this restaurant has reached an enviable standard of excellence under owners Andy Hemingway and Stuart Burbidge. It was recently named Best Small Restaurant in Essex - judges said it was "streets ahead" of the competition, praising every aspect of the operation and calling it 'a London experience' in Essex. Using their years of experience in Michelin-starred kitchens under distinguished chefs like Michel Roux, the owners of The Contented Sole - who are head chef and front of house, respectively - offer a simple, confident menu in their elegant and relaxed restaurant. The freshest seasonal, local ingredients are used to keep the menu exciting and constantly-changing. Among the most popular dishes are the lemon and Dover sole and crèpe fruits de mer.
