From 2:30pm until 4:30pm, the team at the development on Butt Road is opening the doors to local people who are interested in hearing more about the history of the Colchester Military.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is the national charity of the British Army, providing a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their immediate families. The charity was founded in 1944 to ensure that soldiers returning from World War Two were well cared for. Since then, the welfare of soldiers, past and present, and their families has been at the heart of everything they do.

Simon Ferrier, Briefing and Liaison Officer London and East Anglia for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity was posted to Colchester as a soldier with 3 Para in September 2000 and was based out of Hyderabad Barracks. As well as meeting residents and guests, Simon will be making a presentation about the history of Colchester Garrison, as well as 100 years of women in the forces, ration packs and much more.

All those who attend the event will have the opportunity to take a tour of the remaining apartments at Lancer House and the Estates Team will also be on hand to answer any questions and to advise on how McCarthy and Stone can make moving to the development even easier.

Julie Ward, National Sales Director for McCarthy and Stone, said: “Lancer House was named in honour of the British Army cavalry regiment. The Lancer, a cavalryman equipped with lances, was based in Colchester and stabled his cavalry horses on the eastside of Butt Road. Today, Lancer House stands in place of the Army’s Eastern District Headquarters; with McCarthy and Stone’s development named in honour of their courageous services.”

“We are looking forward to opening the doors of Lancer House for guests to learn all about military history in Colchester, as well as offering the chance for local people to see how Retirement Living Plus at Lancer House could help them to get the most out of their retirement.

McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living Plus developments are designed exclusively for the over 70s, and offer retirees the opportunity to maintain an independent lifestyle, while also having access to tailored domestic and personal assistance packages.
