The Space

Full of charm and history, Lion House features striking gothic windows and a unique layout that reflects its origins as the gatehouse to neighbouring Abbey House. The recently renovated interiors are thoughtfully designed to feel both elevated and easy to live in - ideal for families or small groups.

At the heart of the home is a fully equipped kitchen with a walk-in pantry, perfect for cooking and hosting, with a separate dining room adjoining. The four bedrooms comfortably accommodate up to eight guests, with flexible sleeping arrangements to suit different group types. Two of the king size double beds can be converted into twins, and there is an adjoining room off the master bedroom with a spacious bunk bed, ideal for children. All bedrooms are situated on the top floor.

The cosy living room features an L-shaped sofa, large TV and wood-burning stove - perfect for relaxed evenings after a day exploring.

Step outside into your private covered courtyard, where you can relax in the outdoor seating area or unwind in the hot tub.


Location & Things to Do

Set opposite the beautiful Audley End parkland, you’ll have direct access to scenic walks, cycling routes and open countryside right from your doorstep - making Lion House a superb base for exploring the area.

The picturesque market town of Saffron Walden is just a short walk away, known for its independent shops, cafés, bakeries and restaurants. Its twice-weekly market (Tuesdays and Saturdays) is not to be missed. Recently named one of the best places to live in the UK by The Sunday Times (2025), it offers a perfect balance of countryside calm and local vibrancy.

Right next door, Audley End Enchanted Railway offers a magical day out for families, with a train ride through beautifully decorated woodland, its famous Fairy & Elf walk, and seasonal events throughout the year. During the summer months, you can also enjoy punting. We have a discount available for guests which will be sent after booking.

Just opposite, you can explore the stunning Audley End House - once the largest house in England and a royal palace and now one of England’s finest Jacobean mansions - set within sweeping Capability Brown designed parkland and filled with historic treasures. Cambridge is only a short drive away, perfect for a day exploring the historic city or enjoying an evening out.

London is under an hour by train, making this an easy and well-connected escape.
