When you think about ‘going wild’ in Essex, do you think of sea kayaking, nature watching, wild swimming, mountain biking and windsurfing..? No? Well think again because Essex has wild adventures … in spades!

Seal watching trips run from Harwich Harbour and Burnham on Crouch regularly throughout the season and our RSPB and Essex Wildlife Trust reserves rival any other county as migrating birds are naturally drawn to the food-rich mudflats and saltmarsh along the coast.

These dark mudflats soak up the Essex sunshine so the water is remarkably warm for wild swimming… even in the Autumn!

You can Go Wild with the family. Fossil hunting and beachcombing at Walton-on-the-Naze, where fossilised sharks’ teeth are in abundance, are just some of the exciting discoveries to be made.

With 350 miles of coastline, there are plenty of opportunities for water sports including sea kayaking, wind surfing, dinghy sailing, kite surfing, paddle boarding, jet-skiing and more.

Hadleigh Country Park is positively mountainous compared to other parts of our notoriously flat county so no surprise that the mountain biking is particularly good here..!

Bradwell Cockle Spit on the Dengie Peninsular consists of some 30 acres of shell bank together with extensive saltmarsh. The spit has been built up by tidal currents and is mainly cockle and oyster shells.
