‘Essex ticked every box! We moved into our dream home and never looked back’, Mark Newey
Mark Newey was born in Edgbaston in Birmingham, he’d never been to Essex and had only heard of the stereotype. He was unsure whether he should take up a new high-flying job near Stansted, until he fell in love with the county.
“I was living in Stratford-upon-Avon when I got an interview for a top job. I drove through Herts and thought the area was pretty, but when I parked in Saffron Walden ready for the interview, I instantly fell in love with the place. Saffron Walden is a mediaeval town set within glorious countryside. The town has a thriving market square, the buildings are stunning and it’s only 50 minutes from London and a short drive to Cambridge, what’s not to like?
“I got the job and the search for our ideal house began. The family fell in love with the village of Arkesden, it is such a lovely place, everyone was so friendly and there’s so much going on. Eventually we found our dream home, a period thatch cottage with half an acre of garden, we’d never had so much space before and was the perfect place for our three daughters to grow-up and thrive.
“We’ve always been really happy with the outstanding schools on our doorstep, and our children have excelled. The area has suited us all, we’ve made lots of friends in Arkesden and the surrounding area. We’ve become members, and incredibly proud supporters of Essex County Cricket and the family have joined lots of sports and social groups. Workwise I’m an entrepreneur at heart, and I decided to set-up my own mental wellbeing business, Cohoots and the local community have always been very supportive.
“I’m really proud to call Essex home, I’m a very proud Essex boy!”
