Family Fun at The Farm, Forest, Fort & More

Visit Essex residents of the more furry kind before exploring the forest in Upminster. Discover the secrets of a bunker, climb aboard a fire engine in Grays and more in this jam-packed itinerary.

Day 1 


Morning - Start your family adventure with a visit to Old Macdonald's Farm. With a fantastic range of animals, amusements, and activities, you're sure to love your time at this petting farm. Enjoy a bite to eat at the Farm Cafe onsite.

Afternoon - Let the kids loose to roam the Thames Chase Community Forest. Part at the Forest Centre in Upminster and embark on the Zog trail, graduate through Dragon School, have fun in the play park and more! Bikes are available to hire between April and September. Alternatively, head to Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker, the biggest and deepest cold war bunder open to the public in the South East.


Day 2


Morning - Explore Tilbury Fort, managed by English Heritage, which has protected London from the 16th century through to WWII. Henry VIII built the first fort here, Elizabeth I rallied her army nearby upon threat from the Armada and today, learn what it is like to be a soldier who lived there.

Afternoon - Drive to Intu Lakeside where there really is something for everyone, from the newly opened Flip Out trampoline park and Putt Shack crazy golf to the numerous food outlets, shops and cinema. From here, visit the Essex County Fire & Rescue Service Museum in Grays. Discover how firefighting has changed over the years through their collection of historic fire engines, fire fighting equipment, uniforms and photographs.
