Check in mid-afternoon to your glamping pod at Lee Wick Farm, St Osyth and head down to nearby Jaywick beach for a spot of frisbee and a paddle. Pop into Jaywick’s Martello Tower to check out the cool look-out point at the top before heading back to the farm to fire up the BBQ for your evening meal.
Head over to Chigborough Lake for a Stand-Up Paddle boarding (SUP) lesson with Frangipani. This may look easy but it actually takes some doing so listen up and you’ll be gliding through the water, standing proud on your board in no time. After your lesson, grab some lunch at The Lock Tearoom at Heybridge Basin which has great views over the Blackwater Estuary.
The rest of the afternoon can be spent enjoying the local beaches and Lee Wick Farm.
After a hearty breakfast, head for the waterside village of Brightlingsea, at the mouth of the Colne Estuary, and either take a kayaking tour with a local guide or, if you’re experienced, strike out on your own to enjoy the calm waters kayaking around this charming fishing port.
There are several options for lunch here at the harbourside or in the local high street - you might even want to squeeze in an afternoon swim in the Lido here.
Jump on the Brightlingsea Ferry over to Point Clear or Mersea Island to explore a bit further or take one of several riverside paths leading to neighbouring villages. There are good cycling routes from Brightlingsea to Arlesford and Wivenhoe and bikes can be taken on the Brightlingsea Ferry.
Kids of all ages love crabbing and it’s fun to do so long as you follow a few simple do’s and don’ts which you can find in the Brightlingsea Harbour Guide.
