About

Designed by Sir Frederick and Lady Pat Gibberd and their former home for nearly 50 years, The Gibberd Garden is listed Grade II and open to the public from April to October, with a lively events programme including Music, Theatre and Art and Writing days throughout the Season.

Explore formal terraces, lawns, pools and avenues, then take a romantic stroll through woodland glades down to Pincey Brook.

Be intrigued by the collection of modern sculpture and architectural pieces Sir Frederick and Lady Gibberd acquired over their lifetime – from nationally celebrated sculptors like Gerda Rubenstein, to quirky pieces by young artists they discovered.

Experience the world of these influential 20th century art-lovers and intellectuals in the Gibberd Rooms - conserved as if they had just left – with a little of their art, Sir Frederick’s models and books, and our expert volunteer guides on hand.

Delight the children with animal sculptures, large and small, acres of green space, and the charming moated castle which Sir Frederick built for his grandchildren.

Relax in the Barn Tearoom, with delicious cakes and ice-cream, hot and cold drinks - staffed by friendly volunteers who ensure the garden remains open to the public.

“One of the most important post-war gardens in the country….where sculpture and plants complement each other perfectly.” BBC Gardeners’ World
