Wallasea Island: Sound Mirrors: Free Online Writing Workshop with Dot Dash

About

When you listen in Chalkwell Park, what sounds do you hear? What stories do those sounds bring to mind?

If you'd like to talk and write about the sounds of a place you know and love, sign up for our free online writing workshop. You'll be guided through the process of imagining, remembering and writing about the sounds of Chalkwell Park, with support from writer James Wilkes and artist Lawrence Bradby.

The workshop will be virtual, using the online platform Zoom from 10am-12pm on Saturday 13th March 2021.

Places are free but limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

You'll have the opportunity to record your text during the session, and for your voice to be included (anonymously) in a new sound-based artwork hidden as a geocache in Chalkwell Park for curious visitors to discover as part of England's Creative Coast Essex Geo Tour. This new trail of six geocaches is placed along the coastline of Essex to link cultural venues and locations. The full England's Creative Coast trail continues along the coastlines of Kent and East Sussex.

England's Creative Coast celebrates and connects the distinct, creative coastline across Essex, Kent and East Sussex with a programme of seven new outdoor artworks and the world's first Geotour.

Katrina Palmer's work is an England's Creative Coast Co-commission by Turner Contemporary and Metal and will be launched on East Beach in Shoeburyness in May.
