Breathe in the fresh sea air as you explore the beauty of Walton-on-the-Naze from the ground and from the top of the tower. Discover the heritage of historic Harwich.

Day 1


Morning - Start your short break at The Naze, Walton. Here you can enjoy the fresh air whilst looking for fossils and sharks teeth dating back to the Ice Age, along this
wonderful stretch of coastline.  Stop for lunch and a browse at the Essex Wildlife Trust Naze Visitor Centre.

Afternoon - Standing 86ft the Naze Tower is a landmark and unique visitor attraction. It houses an art gallery, a museum plus a viewing platform offering panoramic views over the countryside and coastline. It also has a tearoom. All the artworks and crafts by local artists are for sale.

Day 2


Morning - Head over to the Redoubt Fort Harwich, built in 1808 to defend the port against Napoleonic invasion (open May–Sept every day 10am–4pm, and
Saturdays throughout the year). The Fort houses a display of large guns, military uniforms, local artefacts and displays.
Lunch - choose from The Alma pub or Samuel Pepys Wine Bar in the town.

Afternoon - Take a walking tour of the town with the Harwich Society. Tours usually run every Saturday at 2pm from the Ha’Penny Pier. (May–Sept, pre-booking required, phone 01255 502872 or email: info@harwich-society.co.uk). The Captain of the Mayflower – Christopher Jones’s house has been recently refurbished, is open by appointment and may be included on the walking tour.  Seal Watching trips also run from the Ha’Penny Pier.

  1. Naze Tower

    Currently closed for the winter re opening end of March 2024. Sited at the beautiful coastal location of the Naze, this historic 86ft navigational tower houses over eight floors, an art gallery, museum, tea rooms and a roof viewing platform with spectacular panoramic views.

  2. Harwich Redoubt Fort

    A circular Fort built in 1808 with ten guns. Open as a military museum with battle re-enactments and other events held during the summer months

  3. Harwich Maritime Museum

    Housed in a disused lighthouse, the museum has specialised displays on the Royal Navy and commercial shipping. History of the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy in Harwich.

  4. Seal Watching Harwich

    Departing from Harwich this is a truly wonderful 120 minute trip. So far every single trip has seen lots of seals but if you don’t see seals close up you get a free trip!

    The Centre is open all year round and houses an education room as well as a café and gift shop. There are a number of displays including fossil and geology displays and information regarding bird migration and sightings.
