Ten miles to the north of Braintree lies the village of Great Maplestead which is also close to Halstead, Sible Hedingham, Castle Hedingham and Little Maplestead. Located in the centre of the village is St. Giles' Church which has three bells with the first being built in the 15th century while the primary school, St. Giles' C of E Primary, has existed since 1863.
With a population of some 355 clustered around the school, church, village hall and playing field, it is are an active community where you are guaranteed a warm welcome. Look out for jumble sales, bazaars, quiz nights, cream teas and a variety of social gatherings throughout the year.
