Seaside Fun on Canvey Island
Stretching along the island’s southern edge, the seafront features a mix of family attractions. Enjoy sandy beaches, year-round dog-friendly areas, and traditional attractions including an outdoor funfair, crazy golf and a bandstand hosting live music throughout the season. The beach itself is popular throughout the year, with a variety of activities like group yoga, crabbing and wildlife spotting across the Thames Estuary.
In a major boost for the destination, Canvey Island Foreshore was recently awarded designated bathing water status, helping to ensure the area’s water quality is closely monitored and protected for future generations of locals and visitors to enjoy.
Take a walk or cycle along the nearly 9km seawall, where uninterrupted estuary views create a true sense of space and tranquillity. Along the way, you’ll see several coastal murals along the seawall and pass landmarks including the iconic Labworth Café, a rare example of Modernist seaside architecture, designed by Ove Arup, and the contemporary Thorney Bay Pavilion, a new, welcoming café offering space for events.
Away from the seaf
ront, nearby natural assets provide further green and blue spaces for relaxation, community events and wellbeing including Canvey Lake, RSPB West Canvey Marsh & Canvey Wick Nature Reserve.
