About
Step below deck and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea aboard Bread & Roses, a beautifully preserved 132‑year‑old Thames Sailing Barge moored at the historic St Osyth Boatyard. Begin your journey with a scenic boat ride from Brightlingsea Harbour—just 10 miles from both Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea—before stepping aboard this extraordinary heritage vessel.
This unique venue at St Osyth Boatyard is run by women for women with the the aim of restoring this 132 year old Thames Sailing Barge to become a floating bakery. The barge is 81ft long, built of wood at Cann’s yard in Harwich in 1891. She has a cosy, warm, spacious and comfortable feel below decks with a beautiful oak table. She is steeped in heritage and has never been de-rigged; always sailing throughout her long life and the aim of St Osyth Boatyard is to get her back there!
St Osyth Boatyard is working alongside Brightlingsea Harbour to provide Afternoon Tea onboard this amazing barge. Also collaborating with Gemma at the Olive Room in Brightlingsea who will be providing all the food which is freshly prepared every morning. The Afternoon Tea consists of 3 decadent finger sandwiches per person, including home roasted ham and mustard, classic cream cheese and cucumber and their popular egg and cress. Fruit scones are made daily and can be enjoyed with Tiptree jam and lashings of clotted cream. To finish slices of homemade cakes and bakes to fully temp your tastebuds!
Dietary needs can be catered for to include Gluten Free, Vegetarian and Vegan with notice. Though please advise of any allergies at the time of booking.
When you arrive at St Osyth Boatyard on board there will be one of the Bread and Roses Team who will be available to help with any needs and share some of SB Bread & Roses heritage.
