About

Galloping Grind – Coffee, Cake & Cadence in the Countryside

Trot off the beaten track and discover Galloping Grind, a quirky horsebox café nestled beside a peaceful pond in the Essex countryside. Whether you’re mid-ride, mid-stroll, or mid-escape-from-the-to-do-list, this hidden gem offers artisan coffee, homemade cake, and a healthy dose of fresh air. You can even have a hose down in our outdoor shower. Dogs welcome, we highly recommend our free pupaccinos!

Designed with cyclists in mind (but adored by all), Galloping Grind boasts secure bike parking, a self-service repair station, and seating with views that’ll make you want to stay for just one more flat white. We also host regular bike maintenance evenings — relaxed, hands-on sessions where you can learn to fix, fettle and fine-tune your ride with expert guidance.

Open Thursday to Saturday 10-4, sunday 9-4, spring to autumn, Galloping Grind blends community spirit, countryside calm, and just the right amount of caffeine. Follow the hoofprints, bring your appetite, and don’t forget to say hi to the bug hotel residents at The Galloping Grub Inn.

We are on a road called Damases lane. At the top of that road is a garden centre. We are around 300 metres from the garden centre and if you were to drive, it’s outside a beige bungalow (there’s a “galloping grind” sign on that fence. The galloping grind itself is next to that bungalow so if you are walking/cycling, you can enter through the gate leading to it (it’s 50 metres from house)
