Family Fun in Chelmsford

Family Fun in Chelmsford

Day 1

Morning

Start your day off at Hylands Estate and enjoy some fresh air and a ramble around the vast parkland and gardens, stopping at The Stables Cafe for morning refreshments. Then make your way over to Chelmsford Museum where the kids (and grown-ups!) will enjoy the new interactive displays and exhibitions, as well as the play area in Oaklands Park.

Afternoon

Head into the City Centre and after a light lunch at the Tiptree Tea Room Bond Street, make your way over to the Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre for a spot of ice skating - always a family favourite. You may have time for shopping too, or try Jump Street trampoline park where you'll also find the largest Clip and Climb in the world!

Day 2

Morning

After a hearty breakfast, visit the beautiful RHS Garden Hyde Hall (open all year round except Christmas Day), the perfect place for your kids to 'run free' and enjoy the flowers, nature, the play area and maybe a picnic by the lake. Alternatively, the Garderner's Rest Cafe is perfect for lunch.

Afternoon

Essex Wildlife Trust has numerous visitor centres throughout the county, one being at Hanningfield reservoir. From here you can take a Wind in the Willows walk by the water's edge, visit the bird hides and enjoy afternoon refreshments at The Cafe by the Water. You may even fancy a spot of fishing!

Accommodation

Stay at The Lion Inn Boreham, which has 23 super comfortable bedrooms, some with access to the guest garden. Just outside Chelmsford, this makes for an excellent family base.
