Poster for Laura Young exhibition featuring river scene in greens and yellows

About

The Maeldune Heritage Centre will be hosting contemporary paintings and relief prints celebrating a return to Essex by Laura Young. Laura says: "After spending 15 years in a less than arty career in the City of London, I decided to take the plunge, to ditch the sensible career and to see if other people would enjoy my artwork as much I enjoy creating it. I often attempt to recreate the wonders of the natural world as a form of visual escapism from modern day commercial excesses. I use a variety of media and methods - if the idea's there, I'll paint it, draw it or make it. Lately, lino printing has been a big focus for me, producing Limited Edition prints of all manner of subjects.

"I continue to paint on a larger scale with oils - the freedom to express yourself on a large canvas is an unbeatable feeling, and as such, oils are a firm favourite of mine."

Pieces for sale include artwork and photography by Ruth O'Neill, Brian Callaghan, Linda Goode, Judith Coker, Christ Bourne, Kendrick Garba, Jill Driver and John Weedon. The exhibition is sponsored by the Mighty Oak Brewery.
