There are many wonderful days out and weekends away waiting for you this autumn and winter, and with the help of C2C, getting to your destination has never been easier. Family Fun
We know what you’re thinking – head to the coast, in this weather? Well, think again. Southend-on-Sea is the place to be all year round, with indoor adventures for the whole family to enjoy. Enjoy a day filled with friendly competition, thrills and great games at Funtopia, previously known as Adventure Inside! Open 363 days a year from 11am, this is the ultimate indoor play centre with everything from soft play to arcade games and rides.
Alternatively, the animal lovers won’t want to miss out on a trip to Sealife Adventure - the UK’s first ever zooquarium! Sealife Adventure is home to over 40 different species from the depths of the sea, the heart of the jungle, and the hot desert.
Tick the longest pier in the world off of your bucket list by visiting Southend Pier & Railway. Either walk the 1.33 miles to the pier head or hop on the narrow-gauge railway. Once you reach the end, enjoy seaside views, delicious food, tea and cake, and more.
Each of these attractions are just a short walk from Southend Central station.
Shows & Events

If you’re looking for something spooky this October half-term, Fright Fantastic Adventure Island will not disappoint. Hop on a C2C train to Southend Central to enjoy Halloween thrills including a themed treasure hunt, eerie entertainment, a costume competition and more.
If you’re in the mood for good theatre, comedy nights, live music and more, the Cliffs Pavilion have a fantastic line up of shows to suit all interests. Their panto, Cinderella, will be running from 13 December to 4 January, starring popular television personality Rylan Clark as the Fairy Godfather! Catch a C2C train to Westcliff station for your next theatre night out.
Historic Sites
There are some fascinating spots in South Essex that showcase our county’s rich history and heritage. Hop on a train to Leigh-on-Sea station and visit Hadleigh Castle. These dramatic ruins tower on a hillside with sweeping views of the Thames Estuary. Once a royal stronghold, it now offers a scenic escape for walkers and history lovers, cared for by English Heritage. The castle is either a 14 minute drive or 33 minute walk from the station – don’t forget to visit the scenic Hadleigh Country Park too!
Alternatively, head to Tilbury Town station and hop in a 5 minute taxi, or opt for 30 minute walk, to Tilbury Fort. Built by Henry VIII and later used by Queen Elizabeth I to rally her army nearby, Tilbury Fort is a fantastically preserved example of a star-shaped fort. With moats, magazines, and bastions to explore, it offers a fascinating family day out and insight into London’s military history.
Stay
