About

Notable sites include the Napoleonic Redoubt Fort, The Treadwheel Crane and the Maritime Museum to name but a few.  Harwich is home to the Electric Palace Cinema, a rare example of one of the earliest cinemas in Britain which first opened in 1911 and is still showing the latest releases.

Harwich Quay is a popular spot from which to watch the passing ferries, pilot launches, fishing boats and yachts which bustle past in an ever changing scene.  During the summer months the foot ferry operates from here, providing a link with the Suffolk coast.   Dovercourt Bay, a short walk from the old town, boast a fine sand and shingle beach making it an ideal place to relax and enjoy the beach life.
