About

Southchurch Hall is medieval moated manor house, which dates to the early 14th century.

The house allows visitors to explore what life was like during the medieval, Tudor, Stuart and Victorian times, with a beautiful selection of historic furniture and collection displayed throughout.

The house was restored in the late 1920s, having been purchased by Thomas Dowsett and presented to the town for use as a museum or library. For many years the Hall was used as a branch library, however after 1974 it became the historic property it is today, cared for and interpreted by Southend Museums Service.

Set in beautiful gardens, there is plenty to see and do for all the family. A small exhibition on the history of the house is displayed in the welcoming reception space, alongside a varied and exciting gift shop and simple refreshment offer.

The Hall is a licensed venue for weddings and the gardens provide a perfect backdrop for photographs.
