About
This interesting exhibition is a celebration of the 1960's expressed creatively in textiles. Multiple techniques, to suit the subject matter, include stitch, applique and needle felting, as well as machine and hand embroidery. All very colourful, they are presented by the membership of the Eastern Region Textiles Forum.
The sixties was the decade of Pop Art, psychedelic print and vibrant colour, The Beatles and Twiggy. Pop Art peaking in the 1960's began as a revolt against main stream approaches to art and culture and evolved into a wholesale interrogation of modern society, consumer culture, the role of the artist and what constituted an artwork, most famously optimised by Andy Warhol's Campbell's soup cans. The sixties began bleak and restricted but by the end people were full of hope and optimism for a better future. This was a defining decade for Britain
