Dark Horse Morris side dancing at Hythe Quay

About

Dark Horse Morris will be dancing at Hythe Quay. Dark Horse were formed in 1995, and dance Border Morris. This style of Morris dancing comes from the English/Welsh borders and involves lots of shouting and clashing sticks. The group wear tatter coats and top hats decorated with feathers. Colours are inspired by the burgundy, brown and black of the Thames Barges and the white of Maldon Sea Salt. Dancers paint their faces red and black both as a disguise and to make themselves look more dramatic.

Maldon's heritage is reflected in the names of the dances, such as: 'Tacking up River', 'Hythe Quay' and 'Iron Works'.
