About

A unique opportunity to view the foundations of an early medieval stone building excavated by members of Burnham U3A Archaeological Group in the garden of Southminster Hall. A rare high status building, previously unknown and thought to have been built for the Bishops of London around the 11th C from septaria stone taken from the ruined Roman fort at Bradwell. The group have been given grants by the Essex Community Foundation of over £11,000 to obtain professional help in excavating this important building. The excavation will be be completed and the site backfilled in October of this year so this is the only chance to view it.
