About
Frinton Summer Theatre
Discover one of Essex's cultural jewels and experience West End-quality theatre by the sea at Frinton Summer Theatre, the UK's oldest continuously running professional summer repertory theatre.
Since 1934, Frinton Summer Theatre has been delighting audiences with an extraordinary tradition of weekly changing productions, attracting visitors from across Essex and beyond to the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Each summer, a company of professional actors, directors and creatives stages an ambitious programme of comedy, drama, thrillers, musicals and special events, with an entirely new production opening almost every week.
The intimate McGrigor Hall provides a unique opportunity to experience exceptional live theatre up close, while the season culminates in a spectacular musical performed under the Big Top Tent on Frinton's famous Greensward overlooking the sea – a truly unforgettable theatre experience.
Over the past nine decades, Frinton Summer Theatre has launched the careers of many distinguished performers and writers, including Dame Vanessa Redgrave, Sir Julian Fellowes, John Osborne, Lynda Bellingham and Owen Teale, and continues to nurture the next generation of British theatre talent.
Alongside its acclaimed productions, the theatre hosts literary, music and special guest events, making it one of Essex's most distinctive cultural destinations.
Whether you're planning a day trip, a seaside holiday or an evening out, Frinton Summer Theatre offers an unforgettable blend of outstanding entertainment, heritage and coastal charm.
