About

From Colchester town centre to the riverside town of Wivenhoe, The Wivenhoe Trail is a pleasant 5 mile walk or cycle, following the National Cycle Route 51. For the main part, the walk is along the banks of the River Colne, passing through the Hythe, where you will see the spectacular Lightship, a former Trinity House Light Vessel from 1953.

Wivenhoe is a pretty riverside town to explore and while away a few hours. If you don't fancy the walk back to Colchester there are regular bus and train services.

If you're a smart phone user you can follow the route using the Go Jauntly app or purchase a copy of the Wivenhoe Trail leaflet from the VisitColchester Information Centre, priced at just £1 or download a copy here
