Ideal for a relaxing break, Rye Farm lies on the edge of Layer de la Haye, Colcester. We are situated in an attractive, unspoiled rural location, about 4 miles south of Colchester. You can watch the bird life and enjoy a walk in the countryside, but are still close enough to Colchester to explore Britain's oldest recorded city. We are 15 minutes from Mersea Island and 35 minutes from other coastal towns. Abberton Reservoir and Wildfowl centre is just 2 miles away.
Pond View is on the ground floor and is a twin bedded (Or super king bed) apartment with a shower. You can decide on the bed configuration at time of your booking. The lounge, dining room and kitchen are open plan and has a beautiful view over looking the Pond, fields & Moat.
Cart Lodge is also on the ground floor has a king size bed and a wet room, which is suitable for wheelchair access, It has a wonderful view towards the moat. It also has an open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen.
The Granary is upstairs and is suitable for a couple or a small family. It has a bath with an overhead shower, a king size bedroom and a single bedroom. An extra single fold down bed can be added for a child (so can sleep up to 2 adults and 4 children). The lounge, kitchen and dining room are open plan with a stunning view that overlooks the fields and Abberton reservoir, and you can see as far as Mersea.
The Courtyard stands on its own and has an open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen. There are two twin bedrooms, both en suite. On request, at booking, the beds can be made up as a super king size. The Upstairs ensuite has a bath with overhead shower and the downstairs ensuite has a step in shower. There is dishwasher and laundry room.
All bedding and towels are provided. Wi Fi , electricity, heating, washing/drying facilities are included. There is ample parking. Outdoor furniture and BBQ's are also available throughout your stay. Cycle storage is available on request.
Rye Farm is open all year. Flexible changeover days. Short breaks minimum of 2 nights, subject to availability. We have guests who make many return visits - that says it all!

Road Directions
A12 to Colchester. Leave at junction 26. Follow signs to Zoo (picture of elephant). Pass the zoo on the right. Next roundabout follow signs to Layer B1026. Once in village turn left at Layer Fox Pub, into Malting Green Road. 300yds on right. Sign to Rye Farm, turn right and follow lane all the way to the end (pass cottages on left).
Public Transport Directions
It is preferable to have a car, to reach Rye Farm. There is a limited bus service to the village. The train station is 5 miles away and it would mean using taxis.
