About

Join us for a walk from Bures railway station enjoying the beautiful countryside which was the inspiration for painters such as Gainsborough. We will be walking out through Suffolk and return via Essex.
The walk goes to the Lodge Hills. We pass the Neolithic earthwork of the Bures cursus on the way out, then the model farm at Smallbridge Hall, and the magnificent Hall itself.

After crossing the "two counties" bridge between Essex and Suffolk we'll go through the garden of Wormingford Mill to the top of Lodge Hills which is the site of an Elizabethan hunting lodge, with great views, before descending beside the mere, where legend has it that the Bures dragon lives.

We then follow the line of the Wormingford cursus and pass the traditional Bures Mill on our way back into the village.

There will be the opportunity to finish with a pub lunch for those that are interested.
